Random thoughts on love

Been thinking about love and what a completely nebulous thing it is. How on earth do you exactly define this thing called love?

I think about the times when we feel this intense thing for someone, and we think it’s love (it may very well be). We feel like we’d do absolutely anything for them. We love them so much we’re willing to go the distance, and then some. Oftentimes in such situations, we’re so blinded by this crazylittlethingcalled love that it doesn’t even matter if the other person “loves us back”. We’ll do it anyway. Willing fools we so are.

Then I think of Jesus, of whom it was said went to the cross, because of love. This Jesus who gave His life for us, out of love. The creator of the universe who left His throne and became nothing for our sake, because of His love. The only chance we have of living, is because of His love.

But it’s often in cases like these when the love is so certain; so sure; so undeniable, that we hold back and we wonder if we should respond at all. Many times our response is to hold back, filled with doubt. We live life our own way, choosing to turn away, rather than to dive, head first into this love which has proven itself vast as the ocean.

I hope the irony isn’t lost on anyone here.

This crazy little thing called love, is… yeah… crazy.

WHAT IS IT?!

//

So anyway, somewhere in the bible Jesus says that world will look at the love that we (Christians) have each other and will know that we are His disciples.

Okay so how does this work? People will look at the way we love each other and then know that we belong to Jesus?

Apparently when people observe the love that we have for each other, they will see something the world cannot give. They will recognise the source, and want this for themselves as well.

The love we have is meant to be bread that satisfies a hungry people. It is living water  to quench a thirst that cannot be quenched otherwise.

//

Love is also said to be that which fuels our passion. It is believed to be the thing that drives people to do the things they do.

So much can be said about whatever it is that is love. And it only shows that I haven’t fully figured it out.

All I can do is to humbly concede my ignorance and sign-up once again, to be a lifelong student of this crazylittlething called love.

Show me.

Teach me.

Lead me.
